Texture and collage

This Art and design video supports teachers in delivering a lesson focused on preparing painted materials for collage, inspired by the textures and patterns explored during the previous texture hunt. Children experiment with painting techniques to create textured and patterned paper, which will later be used in their own collages. The lesson encourages observation, creativity, and reflection on how artists use both texture and colour in their work.

This video is part of Kapow’s Art and design resources, which support the Cambridge Primary Art & Design framework. It helps teachers feel confident guiding learners through the early stages of collage-making, using painted textures as a creative foundation. As part of the Painting and mixed media: Life in colour unit, this lesson encourages children to think imaginatively about materials and develop their visual language in preparation for future artwork.
