Three dimension

This Art and design video supports teachers in guiding learners to apply their knowledge of mixing tints and shades to create the illusion of three dimensions. Children observe how light and shadow fall on a simple curved object, such as a cup or an apple, and paint a grid of gradually changing tones to represent light and dark areas. Working with a limited palette, learners mix and apply colours with care to enhance form and realism in their artwork.

This video is part of Kapow’s Art and design resources, which support the Cambridge Primary Art & Design framework. As part of the Light and dark unit, this lesson builds learners’ understanding of tone and develops their ability to use paint purposefully to create depth and dimension.
