Drawing abstract patterns with contrast

This Art and design video supports learners as they explore wax resist drawing techniques to create expressive and abstract compositions. Using their collage from the previous lesson as inspiration, learners use viewfinders to select sections and scratch into painted wax surfaces. They experiment with line, pattern and hatching techniques to create areas of contrast and texture.

This video is part of Kapow’s Art and design resources, which support the Cambridge Primary Art & Design Curriculum Framework (0067). As part of the Stage 4 Art and design skills unit, this lesson helps children develop mark making techniques, visual contrast and composition in mixed media drawing.
