Expressing ideas through paper sculpture
This Art and design video invites learners to create their own three-dimensional tree of life using the paper-shaping techniques they have practised in previous lessons. Learners are encouraged to plan their ideas by sketching, then use their imagination to build a sculptural tree complete with branches, leaves, flowers and even animals or insects. The video prompts learners to think creatively about shape, size, colour and composition as they bring their unique trees to life.
This video is part of Kapow’s Art and design resources, which support the Cambridge Primary Art & Design Curriculum Framework (0067). In the Stage 1 Sculpture and 3D: Paper play unit, this lesson helps learners apply their skills in a meaningful and imaginative way, building confidence in making decisions, solving problems, and developing their own artistic voice. Through this creative exploration, children celebrate the diversity of the natural world and their own ideas.
